Big Hats and Afternoon Tea

Tuesday, August 15, 1-4 p.m.

Celebrate the history of service in a beautiful setting!  Join us for an old fashioned tea on the grounds of the Jack House.  The tea is a celebration of thanks to churches that have helped us get to our 150th year and acknowledges other service organizations that make San Luis Obispo a wonderful place to live through the years.

The Jack family has been part of StJackHouse. Stephen’s history since our founding in 1867.  Col. R.E. Jack was one of the men who worked to establish St. Stephen’s.  In 1885 the first meeting of our Ladies Aid Society held at Nellie Hollister Jack’s home.  After the fire in 1970 many members of the Jack family worked to make the restoration of St. Stephen’s church possible.  What better place to celebrate our 150th anniversary than at the Jack House!

Please join us as we celebrate 150 years of St. Stephen’s history as part of San Luis Obispo’s history, the history of service and service organizations in San Luis Obispo, and express our gratitude to First Presbyterian Church and United Methodist Church for their help after our 1970 fire.

Various local service organizations will host tables and provide information on their work and how you can participate with them in serving local needs.

•    We will be instructed in “proper” tea making.
•    Jack House docents will provide tours of the Jack House and Gardens.
•    Actors portraying Edgar and Nellie Jack will welcome us and entertain us with their history.
•    Prizes will be given for table decorations and Big Hats.
